After an Indian won the first gold for the country breaking its 124 year old record (of not claiming an Olympic Gold following the principle of "Secular stand" in allowing other countries to win), a flurry of offers made. The governments of various states came out with unheard cash prize amount. Sadly, this happens every time. But none of the useless politicians think about putting the amount to better use through the champion by setting up good infrastructure for producing more winners
Good that Phelps was not born in India. He may not have won so many gold medals if he had been born here which is a different topic altogether because we never allow anyone to achieve so much fame.
I am trying to imagine what our state governments would have done if Phelps indeed won so many gold medals being an Indian. Probably,
1. Donate the entire state to his name
2. Bring the entire nation to a halt by doing a hartal that the centre rename the state to sound something like 'Phelps'
